No Health Insurance?

Get Covered! Campaign May Have Answers

Are you uninsured? You are not alone. Millions of Americans are without health insurance, including as many as 15% of Chautauqua County's adults. Some of you may have lost coverage when you lost your job. Others of you work hard, but your jobs don't provide health insurance benefits. Whatever the reason, finding health insurance can be difficult. If you are looking for coverage, the local Get Covered! campaign may help to point the way.

Get Covered! is a project to improve access to health care coverage.

The Chautauqua County Health Networks Community Health Initiative Committee has developed a resource guide that details what programs may be available to residents of Chautauqua County who do not have health coverage. It is entitled No Health Insurance?

The guide can be obtained by calling the Get Covered! Helpline, a toll-free phone call to 1-888-753-7315.

Worried About Hospital Bills? This is a simple referral guide to local hospital-based financial assistance programs.

Three programs are featured prominently by Get Covered! including

They are all programs designed to help individuals and families who are working but may not qualify or be able to afford regular commercial plans.

New York State has a health insurance plan for kids, called Child Health Plus. Depending on a familys income, parents may be eligible to enroll their child in either Child Health Plus A (formerly Childrens Medicaid) or Child Health Plus B. Child Heath Plus is available locally through Community Blue, Fidelis Care NY, and Univera.

Family Health Plus is a public health insurance program for adults between the ages of 19 and 64 who do not have health insurance either on their own or through their employers but have incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid. Family Health Plus is available to single adults, couples without children, and parents with limited income who are residents of New York State and are United States citizens or fall under one of many immigration categories. Health care is provided through Community Blue, Fidelis Care NY, and Univera managed care plans.

The Healthy NY program is designed to assist small business owners in providing their employees and their employees families with the health insurance they need and deserve. In addition, uninsured sole proprietors and workers whose employers do not provide health insurance may also purchase comprehensive coverage directly through the Healthy NY program. Local carriers include the Chautauqua Plan, Community Blue, Independent Health, and Univera.

Get Covered! is organized by a broad coalition of local organizations, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Western New York, Brooks Hospital, the Chautauqua County Departments of Health and Social Services, Chautauqua County Health Network, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., Chautauqua Plan, Fidelis Care NY, Independent Health, Kwik Kopy, Lake Shore Health Care Center, Univera, WCA Hospital, Westfield Hospital, schools and many community volunteers.
