ur History
The children of Horatio and Julia Brooks donated their family's large brick home to serve as a public hospital for Dunkirk, NY in 1898. Since that year, we have undergone numerous expansion and renovation projects to establish Brooks Memorial Hospital as a leading community healthcare provider with extensive services. Our most recent project included enlarging and renovating the Emergency Department, as well as updating the Hospitals Physical Plant facilities.
Although located in the City of Dunkirk, Brooks serves as the hospital for the people of the Northern Chautauqua region, including the City and Town of Dunkirk, the Village of Fredonia, the Towns of Pomfret, Portland, Hanover, Sheridan, Arkwright, Stockton, and the Villages of Brocton, Cassadaga, Forestville, Silver Creek and Westfield. We are a JCAHO accredited, 133 bed hospital, serving approximately 87,000 people each year on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
