In 2006, the Community Health Initiative of CCHN developed the Get Covered! Helpline. This toll-free helpline links people to information about coverage options, including medical care, dental, prescription, and vision, and may be used by individuals, agencies, and businesses in Chautauqua County.  The Helpline staff offers tips on questions to ask, considerations for plan selection, interpretation of product descriptions, information in the mail, and follow-up calls. “The Get Covered! Helpline is answered locally by someone with an understanding of the programs and resources available in Chautauqua County,” said Ann Abdella, CCHN Executive Director. “The topic of healthcare coverage is complex and sometimes people just need to know what is available to them or where to go first.”

Cover The Uninsured Month

Each year, the Chautauqua County Legislature declares May “Cover the Uninsured Month” in Chautauqua County. CCHN holds a month long series of events to focus attention on the issues of the uninsured and ongoing efforts to improve access to care. This year, a number of events are planned at a variety of locations, and will include representatives from health plans, hospitals, and community-based agencies. There will also be special media attention on the topic of the uninsured through Time Warner Cable, WJTN, WDOE, Pennysaver, Dunkirk Observer, and Post-Journal.

Get Covered! Campaign

Get Covered!The Get Covered! Campaign, a local initiative to improve access to health care coverage for Chautauqua County residents, has helped many people find affordable health care coverage and gives them access to needed health care services. If you have patients or clients who are looking for coverage, the local Get Covered! campaign may be able to help point the way.
CCHN had developed the No Health Insurance? series of brochures in response to community for information related to health care coverage. The first edition, "Worried About Medical Bills?", offers resources for finding free or low cost health care coverage. The second edition, “Worried About Hospital Bills?”, is a simple referral guide to local, hospital-based financial assistance programs. The third edition, "Worried About The Cost of Prescription Medications?", will be available in Fall 2008 and will provide prescription drug coverage options.    photo stock
In addition, there is a toll-free number available to assist with finding the best health care coverage option. The Get Covered! Helpline is available between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can be reached by calling 1-888-753-7315.
