EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH CARE DELIVERY The Chautauqua Conference
The Chautauqua Conference "Excellence in Healthcare Delivery" held on May 29 and 30, 2003 was a substantial success. Participants gained a greater insight as to the problems and prospects for the American healthcare system, as well as a better understanding of the particular challenges of achieving excellence in rural areas. We gained a better grasp of the issues at the national and state levels, and some interesting ideas for implementation in our communities.
In general, the presentations were outstanding. Attendance was somewhat disappointing but we attracted many of the leaders in healthcare of Western New York. CD-ROMs of the conference can be ordered on this Website and can be a valuable tool for learning more about ideas for health reform. (For CME credit information, see below.)
We concluded the conference with table topics for discussion by all of the participants. These issues and concerns included:
- The Medicaid crisis
- Politics and health reform
- Prevention: the key to success
- National reform
- Comparative health systems
- Provider issues (hospital and physician challenges)
- Rural challenge
The particular discussion summary regarding each of these subjects can be found at the end of the evaluation section of our Website.
